D.V.E.R.T.
D.V.E.R.T. provides a unified approach to domestic violence through a multi-disciplinary collaborative by a timely sharing of information to ensure the safety of the victim, assist in the successful prosecution of the offender, and to identify individuals who are in extreme danger
As a result of this preliminary work, the collaborative group formed a smaller working group - the Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (D.V.E.R.T.). This team is comprised of police and sheriff law enforcement, police detective(s), adult probation, city and county prosecution, children's services, victim advocate(s), victim witness advocate(s), a domestic violence investigator, and representatives of the local hospitals.
The task of D.V.E.R.T. is to:
- Strengthen victim advocacy services for the most dangerous domestic violence cases
- Improve prosecution of the perpetrators in the most dangerous domestic violence cases
- Close gaps and strengthen existing coordination and collaboration
- Improve training
- Improve information, data collection, and communication among team members and others
The grant funds have partially funded the hiring of a Victim Advocate who works to enhance victim safety and a Project Coordinator who ensures coordination, information sharing, and accountability on a case-by-case basis, among all team members and others. A Domestic Violence Investigator working with concurrent jurisdictions provides enhanced enforcement and support to prosecution.
